August Wines of the Month

Van Ruiten Chardonnay
This medium-bodied Reserve Chardonnay is lush and round on the palate, while displaying the typical intensity of fruit and spicy oak aromas. Notes of creamy lemon bar and papaya are layered with subtle hints of hazelnut. While the finish is long and clean, the flavors become increasingly full and complex with time.

Calling All Angels Chardonnay
“On a warm summer night, after playing a show on tour, a great chardonnay is my go-to choice of wine. That’s why we created Calling All Angels, a fruit- forward, medium bodied chardonnay. The wine has a fantastic citrus scent and a hint of pineapple that works great with slight vanilla bean notes. The soft tannis and long finish make this great with both a dinner or a drink with friends.” – Jimmy Stafford from Train

Van Ruiten Zinfandel

These grapes are hand-selected from the first vineyard John Van Ruiten planted in 1952. The grapes are hand picked and sorted again before going into the fermentation tanks, this allows for only the best fruit to go into this wine. Our 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel is packed full of blackberry, cherry, and blueberry jam; with barrel flavors contributing aromas of coffee, cedar, and finishing with licorice. A big finish of age worthy tannin and it’s full body suggest pairing with a robust meal of your finest cheese.

Van Ruiten Petite Sirah

Petite Sirah grapes have been grown in the Lodi area for over a century and have historically been used as a red blending wine. Today’s wine drinkers have discovered the distinct characteristics of this varietal; dark hues, exotic aromas of allspice, plums, and green tea, with flavors of black cherries and ripe plums. Exhibiting generous tannins and a lengthy finish, this Petite Sirah should benefit from several years of aging, yet make a terrific accompaniment to hearty stew, lamb, or wild game.

Van Ruiten Cabernet Sauvignon

The inky, black hue color of this sumptuous Cabernet gives way to expressive aromas of black cherry, cassis, and allspice. Aging in French oak barrels softens the otherwise firm tannins and introduces hints of vanilla and cedar on the palate. Luscious currants and pepper flavors are refined and balanced by a lingering finish. For all those who complain that Cab isn’t food friendly, this one is! Ageability is almost guaranteed.
